THE 2ND SPACE THEATRE
& Good Company Players Present
Is He Dead?
Rated PG
 |
Papa LeRoux (LARRY MATTOX) expresses his devotion to Jean Francois
Millet (PETER ALLWINE), thinking he is a woman.
Valet: BRIAN RHEA. |
|
Good Company Players offers up IS HE DEAD? at their 2nd Space Theatre June 18 through August 9.
 |
Millet (PETER ALLWINE) is encouraged by his friends to fake his
death and adopt a female disguise. From left: LANDON WEISZBROD, BILLY ANDERSON,
ALLWINE, and ROBERT SANCHEZ. |
|
The local premiere is by no less a comic writer than Mark Twain, as adapted by David Ives.
The unproduced play was discovered not long ago and first produced on Broadway in 2007.
Starving artist Jean-Francois Millet and his friends cook up a scheme
to fake Millet's death so his paintings will sell.
 |
Neighbors come calling to comfort the "widow": from left, DONNA
BEAVERS, PETER ALLWINE, BARBARA A. KUS.
|
|
The hoax grows even
more complicated - and more fun - when Millet decides to turn up as his own sister to get the closest possible look at the action.
IS HE DEAD? has knockabout physical comedy as well as Twain's trademark wit - and a touch of satire in its wry look at the world art market.
 |
Bastien (PATRICK ALLAN TROMBORG) courts Millet (PETER ALLWINE),
disguised as a woman.

The Cast
Good Company's cast, directed by Elizabeth Fiester, features Peter Allwine as the "dead" artist (and his sister), with Robert Sanchez, Landon Weiszbrod and Billy Anderson as his inventive, stage-managing friends.
Danielle Jorn plays his understandably confused fiancee, and Elizabeth Stoeckel, Patrick Allan Tromborg and Larry Mattox add nimble support. Filling out the cast in delightful comic turns are Donna Beavers, Barbara Kus and Brian Rhea.
 |
Millet (PETER ALLWINE), disguised as a woman, comforts Marie (DANIELLE
JORN) who was Millet's fiance and now thinks him dead.
|
|
In a show the New York critics called "simply nutsy" (the Post), "Infectiously happy" (the Times), and full of "comic ingenuity" (the Sun), Good Company aims to have the perfect frothy romp for summer!
